Hulst Rally Report

Report Proflex Merwede Springs Rally, Hulst (NL)

Unfortunately it's a very short report this time… That because the rally was over for us after the 2nd stage.

On the Friday there was the recce of the rally, and there was a shakedown. We decided to skip the shakedown and we watched the other competitors. After the shakedown we went to our hotel. We drank something and then we went to bed.

Just before the rally there also was an opportunity to recce the stages, but that wasn't necessary for us; we already finished the recceing on Friday.

It was a very warm day, so we would be boiled during the rally! It was our time to start and we went to the first stage; a very long multiple-lap stage. In our second round we drifted a bit to much on a very slippy left-right combination, and we hit a lamppost. We were able to drive further, but the body was damaged pretty much.

On the second stage the rally was still finished for us. When we passed the flying finish, a liquid substance covered the windscreen of the car and many smoke came from the engine. The oil pressure was gone and the engine fell out. At the finish of the stage Steve opened the hood of the car and we saw the whole engine was covered with oil.

The engine wouldn't start normal anymore and she was making very bad sounds. After 10 minutes Steve got the engine running and we tried to drive further, but after 100 meter the oil pressure was not good and we stopped.

We called my dad to pick us up and the rally finished much too early for us…

We put the car on the trailer and we packed the service bus. Steve went home immediately, while my dad and I watched the rally.

It wasn't a good weekend for us and lets hope for a better rally next time!

Kind regards,
